GREEN TECHNOLOGY

photovoltaicWith today’s increasing energy consumption Green Technologies are key player in view of a more energy efficient consumption.

The photovoltaic industry experienced huge growth during the last several years. As renewable energy plays an increasing role in our daily lives, photovoltaic energy has become an important part in renewable energy.

Lion Systems has developed a new quality assurance system to test the quality and functionality of photovoltaic cells and modules in manufacturing, which is based on electroluminescent imaging.

In module manufacturing you have now the possibility to adapt your manufacturing line with our new “Electroluminescent Eye” test equipment which allows an automatic online testing of the cells and module during manufacturing. The new online test is able to look into the silicon cells and detect defects at a very early production stage. This helps you to increase your yield in manufacturing. With the former camera technology existing on the market only laboratory testing could be done, as the measurement system wasn’t fast enough and had to work in an absolute dark environment. By using state of the art high resolution near infrared InGaAs cameras with a frame rate of 30Hz we are now able to meet with our test equipment the manufacturing speed and conditions of modern assembly lines. “Electroluminescent Eye” helps to improve the photovoltaic module quality.

In addition to manufacturing, no objective functional testing of outdoor photovoltaic installations was available for individuals investing into photovoltaic installations, which are expected to last 20 years or longer. They had no tool to verify the perfect functionality of the installed modules.

Functional testing of new installations is simply based on the electrical current generation. Right now no instrument was available to verify if new or older installation have some mechanical damages or not. Mechanical damages that have a significant influence on the energy supply over lifetime of the installation could not be detected. Lion Systems developed new optical test equipment for doing so.

Green technologyLion System has developed with PV-EL tester a new mobile quality assurance test tool which allows flexible outdoor functional release and final Acceptance testing on photovoltaic installations. PV-EL tester is based on the electroluminescence imaging technology. The electroluminescence imaging is possible when applying some electrical current on the photovoltaic modules. The PV modules are immediately shining in the near infrared light range, not visible for the human eye. By means of new high resolution near infrared InGaAs cameras cell damages or manufacturing defects are becoming visible due to variations in the homogeneity of the cell brightness. Defect cells in a module are shining darker and visualize silicon defects, diffusion faults, micro cracks or defect conductive paths. Outdoor electroluminescent imaging is feasible from nightfall till dawn, the period where the PV installation isn’t supplying any current.

Innovative LED Lighting

Worldwide, around 20% of the electric current that is consumed is wasted by inefficient lighting. An important step in the right direction was taken through the Eco-design Directive 2005/32/EC, also called Energy using Products, which among other things requires doing away step by step with inefficient and environmentally unfriendly forms of lighting. Incandescent light bulbs with frosted glass and 100 watt light bulbs were the first to disappear from the shelves as a result.

LED technology is an excellent and environmentally friendly alternative as compared to the older forms of lighting technology. The FARA LED LAMP® from development partners Laser - Med and Vishay Intertechnology was brought up to the stage of readiness for series production against this background. This innovative lighting solution is a high-end product that is ‘Made in Germany’ and designed for use indoors and outdoors. A number of different models are offered, including those for street and tunnel lighting and the illumination of industrial halls and premises, underground garages and parking areas, and also for pedestrian and cycle paths.

The FARA LED LAMP® is environmentally friendly from many points of view. It shines due to its markedly lower power consumption (by up to 50% when compared to the forms of lighting listed above) and thus also because it reduces emissions of CO2 by up to 350 kg per lamp per year. Furthermore, it does not contain mercury or other heavy metals or any poisonous substances. Last but by no means least, it has an exceptionally long working life of > 50,000 hours, depending on the conditions of use.

Since LED’ s do not emit any light in the ultraviolet range, they do not attract insects. The result is that far less cleaning is required than is the case with a conventional light source.
To summarise the ecological balance, the high economic benefit comes in the first instance from the low operating and maintenance costs quite apart from the long working life. The investment costs can be recouped within a short time frame and thus represent a profitable and ecological solution that shows the way of the future.
With FARA LED LAMP® we have very innovative and environmentally friendly lighting solutions which we are representing on the local market.
